Hey TBH Kids! My name’s Mira and I’m 18 years old. It wasn’t that long ago that I was a tween and I remember everything about my struggles with acne and skin care! Think of me as your TBH Kids big sister and I hope that I can help guide you through these confusing yet exciting years! A few fun facts about me… my favorite color is definitely pink and I love dogs. I’m a history and political science major in my freshman year of college and my guilty pleasure TV show is The Bachelor/The Bachelorette!

Just because my prime tween years are over doesn’t mean I don’t remember what that awkward age is like! One thing that really changed for me was my skin. For as long as I can remember I had clear and smooth skin. I never really had to worry about skincare until I was 12 years old. I was in 7th grade when I started to develop acne. I had no idea what to do and I really didn’t have a routine. I started wearing makeup to school every day, which was really unhealthy for my skin. I never gave my pores a chance to breathe! Luckily, my childhood neighbor was a few years older than me and taught me how to wash my face and take care of my skin. I was so grateful that I had someone to turn to for advice. I hope this post can help you with your routine so let’s get into it!

Every morning I brush my teeth, put my hair back with a scrunchie, and get to work on my face! I start with my TBH Spot Wash because it has .4% salicylic acid which helps to fight acne because even though I’m not a tween anymore, I still experience the occasional breakout. After I gently dry my face, I apply moisturizer as my face is generally super dry! Not only is it important to moisturize your face, but also your whole body! I use TBH Body Lotion after my shower to rehydrate my skin (which is especially important as winter begins!).

Though everyone’s routine is different and specific to their own needs, I definitely recommend washing your face twice a day! Leaving your daily and nightly build up of oil and dirt on your face can clog your pores and cause acne. As important as it is to have a routine, it’s equally important to start early. If I could change one thing about my experience with acne, I would definitely start taking care of my skin earlier instead of only trying to cover it with makeup. If I started earlier, I think I would have healthier skin now! I’m proud of how I learned to take care of my skin, but don’t get me wrong, I still struggle with acne
sometimes. It's difficult and annoying, but it’s totally normal and treatable!
